FAQs

What’s Bucket Golf?

It’s like golf, but way more accessible. The ball is bigger. There’s only one club and that’s bigger. The holes are way shorter. And unlike golf, where you shoot for holes, Bucket Golf uses buckets. (I know!)

You don’t even have to get it into, you only have to hit the outside. But if you do get your ball in the bucket, you get a shot off your score.

Check out videos of people playing on YouTube. It’s golf for everyone.

What’s the Bucket Open?

It’s our (first annual?) Bucket Golf tournament (and cookout)!

Those playing will enjoy a fun 9-hole qualifying round. From there, the top 6 or so will continue on to a 9-hole championship round to determine our tournament champion. There will be prizes, a live leaderboard, drink breaks, signature cocktails, and more.

What If I Don’t Want to Play?

No problem! You’re still part of it. Hang by (and in) the pool, follow the action on the bar’s live leaderboard, and (hopefully) sit around the final hole of the championship round to contribute ooo’s, ahh’s, and polite golf claps for the players.

Where’s the Course?

It’s at our house! We’ve built an interesting 9-hole course using most of our yard.

Course Map

You’ll play through open fields, over wood chips, around pool fences, across meadows, and navigate a lengthy final hole we’ve named “Marathon.”

But What If I Suck at Golf?

So? This is a tournament in that there will be a winner, but the event is more of a social gathering and fun thing where we hand out a couple prizes. It’s a cookout with a structured Bucket Golf element. Come have fun with us!

Besides… Bucket Golf isn't exactly golf. What if you turn out to be really good at it?

What Do I Need to Play?

Register for the tournament here and pay the entry fee ($10), all of which becomes prizes for the top 3 finishers.

That’s it. We’ll supply the rest.

Can I Bring My Own Club?

Absolutely! You’ll want a sand wedge.

Is There an Age Limit?

For the tournament, yes. We’re keeping it 14+ for now. If things go well this year, we’ll look into expanding it for next time.

That said, there will be plenty of time outside the tournament to play the course. Everyone is welcome to grab a club and play a round!

What’s the Schedule

The Cookout

The cookout starts at 11:30am. Get here, hop in the pool, grab a drink and some food, maybe play a pratice round or two.

The Tournament

The tournament will start around 1:00pm. All players will play our 9-hole course once for the qualifying round. (A group of 3 should take about 45-60 minutes.) Qualifying should wrap up by around 2:00.

After a small break to see who makes the cut, the top 6 or so qualifiers will move onto the championship round. This round should wrap in less than an hour.

We’ll finish with a little award ceremony at the end, so winners can get the admiration they deserve!

And Beyond

After that: there is no schedule! Stick around, jump in the pool, sit at the bar, play on the arcade, or play another round with friends.

What Should I Bring?

We ask that you bring a couple things:

  1. Something to add to the food table.
  2. Things to drink, probably in a cooler.
  3. A chair to set up around the 9th hole for a big finish.
  4. Swim wear, towels, pool toys, sunscreen, etc.

How Do I Pay My Entry Fees?

Send $10 per player to @fredleblanc on Venmo. Last 4 digits of the phone number is 4262 if you need it. Make a note of who you’re paying for if it’s not obvious.

What if it Rains?

Rain date: the next day. Sunday, August 30. Same time.
